No time to waste

Climate innovation needs to go faster

Climate innovation that doesn’t fulfil its potential harms all of us.

Losing innovation that genuinely mitigates emissions through a lack of critical scale, missing essential value chain partners, finance gaps, policy blockades and governance failures is something humanity cannot afford.

Market-based processes for innovation are a tournament— one that historically delivers good outcomes— but Faster Climate Impact has been born of a vision to harness those processes and make them work better, and especially quicker, to deliver the impact we so desperately need.

The Ecosystem Builder for the Climate Emergency

Faster Climate Impact is the new climate tech initiative from Dr Chris Coleridge, Associate Professor at Cambridge Judge Business School.

The KPI for Faster Climate Impact is “speed”, finding ways to use integration (primarily vertical), aggregation, co-ordination and orchestration to make “leaps forward” in climate tech effectiveness.

Faster Climate Impact:

  1. Will identify opportunities to acquire companies which can achieve more together than apart.

  2. The opportunities, once taken, will create “climate powerhouses”. Projects which are world class on science and engineering, leadership, operations and governance and on policy engagement can make Faster Climate Impact happen because their existence accelerates capital formation in their arena.

  3. Around the core businesses it acquires and integrates, it will strengthen, create and orchestrate ecosystems.

Recruiting a Founding Team for Faster Climate Impact

Chris (who will remain on the Strategy faculty at the University of Cambridge) intends to be Executive Chairman for the FCI initiative. Two cofounders, both able to ‘go full time’ once suitable funding has been secured, are urgently sought:

Chief Executive Officer— you will be an experienced business developer with a track record in M&A, ideally in a climate-relevant space.

Chief Sustainability Officer—you will be an experienced sustainability expert. Expertise in governance a great help.

All three members of this “dream team” must and will share:

  • a passion for working at the cutting edge of systems thinking and shaping positive outcomes

  • a desire to dedicate their talent and their one precious life on this planet to the fight to protect our future despite the climate crisis, and to spend 100% of the work-dedicated part of life on high quality, high impact projects. All killer, no filler.

  • an ability to work “in person” together at least one day a week in Cambridge, England for the first two-three years of the project
